6 Phrases Blog

Using the six phrases you've learned from class, you should write 6 sentences that accurately use each phrase. Write about whatever you want; however, the sentences need to be coherent and grammatically correct. Here is the order in which you will write the sentences, using the following phrases:

1. Prepositional
2. Participial
3. Gerund
4. Appositive
5. Absolute
6. Infinitive

  2. 1.) prepositional- under the old oak tree, i sat reading for hours during the summer.

    2.) participial- screaming out loud, i got scarred during the movie.

    3.) gerund- swimming in the summer, is a nice way to cool off

    4.) appositive- Louisiana, a place with history and full of culture, is a fun place to visit with the whole family.

    5.) absolute- eating macaroni, her favorite childhood food.

    6.) infinitive- to tell a secret is a mean thing to do

    2) Participial: Running in the race, he started to think how tired he was.
    3) Gerund: Dunking on someone while they hit you looks very good.
    4) Appositive: Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world, has a high income.
    5) Absolute: His bathing suit on, he got ready to go to the beach.
    6) Infinitive: To play defense is his best skill in basketball.

    3) Crying in the stalls of the restroom.
    4) Jonathan, the bully of the grade, made fun of me.

  5. 1. Prepositional- The horses ran across the green pasture.
    2. Participial- Created by the student, the powerpoint turned out great.
    3. Gerund- Running gets harder when hurdles are put in front of you.
    4. Appositive- The US dollar, a type of currency, has pictures of previous presidents on it.
    5. Absolute- Their monstrous wings stretched across the sky, the buzzards flew looking for food.
    6. Infinitive- They plan to swim this summer.
